President of Brahmanbaria Press Club and General Secretary of Television Journalists Association Riaz Uddin Jami, staff reporter of Channel-Twenty-four and Daily Janakantha, is no more.
On Monday (March 6) at 11:30 p.m., he died while undergoing treatment at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India. He was 50 years old at the time of his death. He was diagnosed with cancer since August last year. Since then he was under treatment. He is survived by two sons, wife and numerous relatives. Riaz Uddin Jami is the second son of Professor Abdus Shahid and Fatema Shahid of Maheshpur area of Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria.
Meanwhile, on behalf of all the officers and employees of Brahmanbaria district administration, District Commissioner Md. Shahgir Alam expressed deep grief and prayed for the forgiveness of his departed soul. Meanwhile, after receiving the news of Riaz Uddin Jami’s death, press club leaders, journalists working in the district, Sahitya Academy, anchors, various social organizations of the city, relatives and bereaved people came to express their condolences at the residence in Kalaipara in the city.
In a meeting of Brahmanbaria Press Club announced the program on the death of Riaz Uddin Jami. The program includes hoisting of black flag at the press club building, wearing of black badges by news workers, milad and doa mahfil for the soul of the deceased at Bad Asr press club auditorium on the last day of the program on March 9, and organizing prayers at every mosque in the city on Friday, March 10 at Bad Jumma for the journalists, President Riyaz The general secretary said that a condolence book has been opened at the Brahmanbaria Press Club to express the feelings of Sudhijans on the sudden death of Uddin Jami. Baharul Islam Molla said.
It is to be noted that Riaz Uddin Jami served as General Secretary twice and President twice in Brahmanbaria Press Club. He was elected unopposed to the post of president in the last press club elections. He also held the post of General Secretary of Brahmanbaria Television Journalists Association. He was working as a staff reporter for satellite television channel Twentyfour, Daily Janakantha. He dabbled in journalism as a sub-editor in the first daily newspaper “Dainik Brahmanbaria” published in this district on February 1, 1991. He became a member of Brahmanbaria Press Club on 14 November 1997. In 2007 Daily Brahmanbaria published “Dainik Brahmanbaria Pratidin” under joint ownership.
