BKMEA delegation pays courtesy call on PM: Addressing challenges of garment sector and assures policy support

A delegation led by BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at the invitation of the Prime Minister to discuss the current challenges and prospects of the ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh.

At this time, BKMEA sincerely thanked the Prime Minister for taking the initiative to postpone LDC graduation, trying to reopen closed factories and bringing necessary amendments before the passage of the Labor Law in Parliament. At the same time, a request was made to provide policy and necessary cooperation to ensure that the currently operating factories do not close, as well as reopening closed factories.

The Prime Minister assured to take necessary measures after discussing the matter with Bangladesh Bank and the National Board of Revenue (NBR). He also suggested submitting the complications related to NBR and banking in writing.
He also emphasized on product diversification, especially the potential of the silk sector and man-made fiber-based products, industrial diversification and solving the energy problem.

Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Suman, Advisor to the Prime Minister Mahdi Amin and Narayanganj-1 MP Mostafizur Rahman Dipu Bhuiyan were present at the event.

Executive President Fazle Shamim Ehsan, Senior Vice President Amal Poddar, Vice President (Finance) Morshed Sarwar Sohel, Vice Presidents Md. Shamsuzzaman and Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid were present on behalf of BKMEA, among others.

BKMEA believes that this positive initiative by the government to develop the country’s industrial sector, grow exports, and protect employment will instill new hope among industrial entrepreneurs.
