An anti-drug workshop organized in Pirojpur has called for a strict stance against drugs to protect the young generation from the menace of drugs and build a drug-free society. The workshop was jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and the Narcotics Control Department, Pirojpur District Office at 11 am on Tuesday (June 16) at the Sadar Upazila Auditorium.
Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mamunur Rashid was present as the chief guest at the workshop. In his speech, he gave strict instructions to prevent the spread of drugs and said, “Drugs do not only harm an individual, they destroy the entire family and society. Our goal should be to ensure that drugs do not exist anywhere under any circumstances.”
UNO Mamunur Rashid further said, “We all have to adopt a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs from our respective positions. Strict legal action will be taken against any shop or institution selling cigarettes or drugs, especially to students under the age of 18. The administration is always trying to identify drug dealers.” He laid special emphasis on keeping the youth away from drugs by involving them in sports and creative activities.
The program was presided over by Assistant Director of the District Narcotics Control Department Md. Nazrul Islam. District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Principal Zahirul Haque, Pirojpur Sadar Upazila Family Planning Officer Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed and Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Radheshyam Sarkar spoke as special guests. The workshop was conducted by Inspector Bapan Sen of the Narcotics Control Department.
Speakers at the event identified drugs as a ‘terrible disease’ for society and said that families, educational institutions, religious institutions and the media must work together against this evil force.
The workshop was attended by public representatives, teachers, media workers and leaders of various social, cultural and voluntary organizations.
The workshop discussed in detail the harmful effects of drugs and various aspects of social awareness and prevention in building a drug-free society.
