The investigation found that Afroza Akhter Sharmin targeted the wealthy, businessmen, and high-ranking employees of the society, using multiple IDs on various social media platforms including Facebook, Messenger, TikTok, and sending them friend requests to collect their mobile numbers and by establishing good relations with them, she brought them to various elite hotels in Gulshan, Baridhara, Banani, and Cox’s Bazar in the capital, had physical relations with them, recorded videos of their intimate moments on mobile phones, and blackmailed them to extort crores of taka. Afroza Akhter Sharmin has a huge gang. On the condition of anonymity, several victims said that first she brought them to her spa center and village house under various guises and her associate gang showed them indecent videos on mobile phones and demanded money from them. Then, if they refused, they were subjected to physical and mental torture. It is also known that this gang forcibly took the victims’ signatures on non-judicial blank stamps of 300 taka. Then, they threatened them with lawsuits and social harassment and extorted money from them.
The investigation also revealed that Afroza Akhter Sharmin used to work in a liquor bar abroad. There, she also engaged in prostitution. After returning to the country from abroad, she met a friend named Jasmine from Bashundhara residential area. The friend introduced her to influential people, businessmen, and employees of the society and helped them in immoral activities. Her mother, aunt, and her huge terrorist force were involved in blackmailing her through immoral activities.
It is also known that Afroza Akhter Sharmin first got married. When her husband came to know about her prostitution, he divorced her. After the divorce, she married several nominal marriages in a row and did not marry anyone. Using these husbands as signboards, she is earning crores of taka through her anti-social activities by holding various influential businessmen and some government bureaucrats hostage.
That is why she is using multiple TikTok IDs. Every morning, she changes the name of her various social media IDs and uses new IDs with different names, creating a new trap of fraud.
Afroza Akhter Sharmin is being helped by some dishonest police officers, several drug dealers, so-called Bhuifor journalists and political party leaders and activists. They are helping her continue her prostitution business by accepting monthly subscriptions.
A victim who does not want to be named said that he lured me into a love trap, brought me to a house in Gulshan and extorted lakhs of taka from me with his terrorist force.
When I spoke to several people in Shantirkanda Ratanpur village of Bajitpur police station in Kishoreganj, Sharmin’s birthplace, they said that her first husband divorced her because of this act of Sharmin. After that, she became more reckless. When she opened up about her, she, her mother and her aunt, along with the terrorist group, were so dangerous that we had to face various losses including lawsuits and attacks. A businessman who did not want to be named said that he has been married multiple times, and there is also a terrorist gang in Sharmin’s area, and he has used them to extort money from different people at different times. However, he expressed doubts about why local political, social and law enforcement officials are silent about her.
Due to the said Afroza Akhter Sharmin, people from all walks of life, starting from people from different classes of society, are getting involved in indecent activities and are being cheated and harassed. Therefore, civil society demanded to free the society from this dangerous sex trafficking ring and demanded that he be brought under the law with the cooperation of law enforcement agencies.
When the media tried to contact Afroza Akhter Sharmin on her mobile phone several times to find out about the allegations against her, she did not receive the phone. Later, a conversation took place on WhatsApp and during the conversation, when Afroza was asked about the allegations against her, she said that she did not know who or what had made the allegations against her. When she was asked about going to the spa center in Gulshan, she got angry and threatened and hung up the phone.
In this regard, Bajitpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Md. Murad Hossain said on the phone, if we receive any complaints about Afroza Akhter Sharmin, we will investigate and take the matter into consideration.
