​Police in a special drive recovered 30 kilograms of hemp (ganja) from a private car under Jorarganj Police Station in Chattogram. However, sensing the presence of law enforcers, identified drug traffickers managed to flee the scene leaving the vehicle behind.
​The hemp-laden car was seized on Tuesday night (July 28) from the South Sonapahar area adjacent to the Dhaka-Chattogram highway under Jorarganj.
​According to police sources, a team led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jorarganj Police Station Mohammad Abdul Halim, along with Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Saddam Hossain and accompanying force, was conducting a special operation under the overall supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police (Mirsarai Circle) Md. Nadim Haider Chowdhury.
​During the drive, police set up a temporary checkpoint on the paved road on the east side of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway near Omera Gas Field in Ward No. 9 of Jorarganj Union. At around 9:45 PM, a red-maroon private car (Reg. No: Chatto-Metro-Ga-11-1615) reached near the checkpoint, and police signaled it to stop. Noticing the presence of law enforcers, the driver along with the drug peddlers quickly abandoned the vehicle on the road and fled.
​Later, police searched the abandoned private car and recovered a total of 30 kg of hemp wrapped in two white plastic bags from the trunk. The recovered narcotics and the private car were seized on the spot under a seizure list.
​Jorarganj police stated that a regular case has been filed against the absconding drug peddler, Md. Ibrahim (36), son of Nurunnabi from Charlala village of Feni Sadar Model Police Station, along with 2–3 unnamed accomplices. Police operations are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects
