Md. Anisur Rahman Shelly: SSC examinees held a protest and highway blockade in Tangail demanding the cancellation of yesterday’s SSC examination and the resignation of the Education Minister.
Students blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway for about an hour and a half from 1:30 pm on Tuesday. This caused a 10-kilometer-long traffic jam on the northbound lane of the highway, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Earlier in the morning, the examinees took out a protest march in front of the Tangail Press Club.
The procession circled various roads in the city and met at Nirala intersection. Later, from there, the students again took up a protest procession and took up positions on the Dhaka-Tangail highway and blocked the road.
At the time, students said that due to severe floods and heavy rains across the country, many candidates are facing extreme hardship in reaching the centers.
They were affected by the situation created by yesterday’s SSC exam. Therefore, they demanded the cancellation and re-conduct of the exam and the resignation of the Education Minister to ensure accountability in the related matters. Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, members of the law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene. There, law enforcement officials discussed with the students. They spoke to the inauguration authorities and reassured the students. Later, the students lifted their blockade.
