In Myanmar’s Rakhine state, armed clashes have resumed again after a long break between the junta forces and the country’s rebel organization Arakan Army. The Teknaf border is shaking with loud noises.

The Teknaf border area of Cox’s Bazar is shaking with the sound of warplanes flying in the sky and one after another loud explosions. Panic has spread among local residents. However, the administration has urged people not to panic in such a situation.

Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) S. M. Anik Chowdhury confirmed the authenticity of the airstrike and said, “The country’s border guard and coast guard members are on alert. So far, the border is 100% secure.”

Mozammel Haque, chairman of the Rohingya Resistance Committee, a resident of Jaliapara area of Teknaf, said that some isolated sounds have been heard from the other side of the border since morning. On the night of July 1, from 10 pm, intermittent shelling was heard. From 12 pm until the early hours, flames and several loud noises were heard. This has increased concern among the locals.

According to the Myanmar media outlet The Irrawaddy, the junta government has been carrying out drone and air strikes targeting the targets of the Arakan Army for the past week. They are even targeting populated areas. On the other hand, the Arakan Army has been able to build strong resistance against the junta. It is said that the Arakan Army is in an advantageous position for strategic reasons. However, several reliable sources in that country claim that more than a hundred people have been killed in the ongoing war between the military and civilians for weeks. The junta has even set fire to various establishments and settlements.

Kalim Ullah, an old Rohingya living in Teknaf, who constantly monitors the situation in Rakhine using various techniques. He told this reporter that the situation was normal for 4/5 months, but suddenly the junta forces have adopted a new strategy of attack. They have increased the speed of attacks by water, land and air. The horror of the war has come close to the Bangladesh border. As a result, the people of the Teknaf border are terrified by the sound of ammunition and bomb attacks. Border trader Anwar Hossain said that the impact of this war has had an adverse effect on border trade. Even the Teknaf land port has practically become impassable. Fishermen have been limited to fishing in the Naf River due to security reasons. However, Bangladesh has strengthened BGB Coast Guard patrols.
A local Teknaf public representative, Mohammad Sharif, said that after a break of just a few hours on July 2, sporadic shooting incidents have started between the junta forces and the Arakan Army since Thursday morning. We have received news that several bombs were dropped from warplanes after yesterday evening. No casualties were reported. However, it is also reported that several Rohingya families are leaving their homes and gathering towards the border in the wake of this incident.

Sabrang Union Parishad Acting Chairman Abduk Mannan said, “After many days, clashes have started again in Myanmar. The sound of explosions has shaken people’s houses. Many have come out of their houses in panic.

Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hanifur Rahman Bhuiyan said, yesterday at around 9 pm, there was a shooting incident between the two sides across the border in the Maungdaw area of Myanmar. The loud sound of the shooting is also being heard in the border area of Teknaf, due to which houses have shaken in many places. I myself have visited the border area to verify the matter on the spot.

Incidentally, the last time there was a clash between the Arakan Army and the armed forces of the junta government in Rakhine State of Myanmar on December 28 last year, January 25 this year and early February.
The Myanmar junta forces have lost control of 14 out of 17 townships in Rakhine State. The Arakan Army is trying to capture the other three townships. It is moving slowly. On the other hand, the junta forces are fighting to the death to take control of the lost townships. On the other hand, the Arakan Army now controls the entire 272-kilometer Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Analysts claim that the Arakan Army (AA) is in a favorable position for many reasons. In addition, the Arakan Army is involved in smuggling, drug trafficking, kidnapping fishermen and ordinary border Bangladeshis in the Rakhine State of Bangladesh, inhumanly torturing them and extorting ransoms. Apart from this, the sound of gunfire has been heard intermittently until the writing of this report, said Rafiq Mia, a fisherman from Ukhia Rohingya Camp 14. He went to the Naf River to fish with a jakijaal this morning and went to the Hoaixyang Ulu Bonia point of the Naf River. He returned to the Palangkhali market at 12 noon with a net and a net on his shoulder and described the loud sound of gunfire to local journalists and people.
