Ramgati-Kamalnagar (Lakshmipur) Correspondent : The government paddy procurement program for the current season has been successfully completed at the Hazirhat food warehouse in Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur. The target of 150 metric tons of paddy procurement, set in a completely transparent process without giving any opportunity to any middlemen or syndicates, was achieved 100 percent last Thursday, according to food department sources.

Talking to the food warehouse people, it was learned that the paddy was purchased from the actual registered farmers in a completely systematic manner as per the list prepared by the Upazila Agriculture Department. Quality paddy was collected directly from the farmers at the government-set price of Tk 1,440 per maund, where no shopkeeper or trader had access.

Recently, the allegations of irregularities raised in some quarters regarding the procurement of paddy at Hazirhat Food Warehouse have been claimed by those concerned to be completely untrue and misleading. In particular, the allegations raised against the general employee of the warehouse, Md. Hasan, have no real basis. He has only performed his regular duties as an ordinary employee, and has no involvement in the policy decisions or preparation of the list of paddy purchases.

The food warehouse inspector said in this regard,

“Our scheduled procurement of 150 metric tons of paddy was completed last Thursday. The entire process was carried out with utmost transparency. One party is trying to spread completely fictional and fabricated allegations without any statement from real farmers or specific evidence, which is intentional.”

Earlier, Hazirhat Food Warehouse Officer-in-Charge (OC LSD) Nishad Jahan and Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Rahat Uz Zaman had clearly stated that according to government rules, there is no opportunity to procure paddy from anyone other than genuine farmers and the administration was strictly monitoring the entire process.
