Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Thakurgaon Airport will be launched in the next two years. The implementation work is progressing rapidly in line with the promise made by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during his visit to Thakurgaon before the elections. He said these things at a reception organized by the district BNP on Wednesday afternoon, May 20, 2026, at the old airport runway premises in Thakurgaon.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that Thakurgaon and Bogra Airport projects have already been included in the green page of the Planning Department. The development work of these airports will start soon. He said that some groups and political parties are spreading propaganda by misleading the people. He also said that BNP is committed to implementing the July Charter. He said that BNP wants to establish democracy. The party wants to build a harmonious Bangladesh with people of all races and religions. He reminded that President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and the late Prime Minister Khaleda Zia worked for the democratic recovery. Their worthy son Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken various important initiatives for the country. This political party is working continuously. He mentioned that Bhulli and Ruhiya police stations have already been upgraded as two upazilas. In addition, as a commitment to the development and progress of this district, development programs including universities, medical colleges, nursing colleges and EPZ are being implemented. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Ms. Afroza Khanam Rita, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat spoke at the reception organized. Thakurgaon-2 MP Dr. Abdus Salam, Thakurgaon-3 MP Zahidur Rahman and District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin also delivered welcome speeches. At that time, the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, the MD of the Biman company, important personalities and local political leaders, including local people, were present. Earlier, the Minister of the Ministry, the Minister of State and high-level officials visited the runway of the airport. Later, a floral greeting was given and a reception was given.
