Entertainment Desk: Actress Ranjita Kona was injured in a snatching incident while returning home from the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) amid the ongoing momentum of the Film Artists’ Association election activities.
The incident took place on Sunday night in the Rampura Bazar area of the capital. According to the actress, a snatcher pulled at her earring, causing serious injury to her ear. She was later taken to hospital, where doctors had to stitch her ear with seven sutures.
Describing the incident, Ranjita Kona said she had visited BFDC to observe the festive atmosphere surrounding the Film Artists’ Association election, which she always enjoys. On her way home at night, she felt someone was following her. Before she could react, a snatcher suddenly grabbed and pulled her earring.
“I was terrified. I started screaming and then realized blood was coming from my ear. My earring was gone. The force of the pull tore my ear apart into two parts,” she said.
Following the incident, members of the Film Artists’ Association rushed to help her and took her to the hospital for treatment. She mentioned that actor Joy Chowdhury and others quickly arrived and assisted in arranging medical care.
“I had to get seven stitches in my ear. This is the first time I’ve experienced something like this. I was already a bit unwell. I just hope no one else has to go through such an experience,” she added.
Ranjita Kona made her film debut in the late 1980s opposite actor Bapparaj in the film Dhaka 86, directed by actor-director Nayak Raj Rajjak. She gained attention with her first film and later acted in several movies including Raja Mistri and Jiner Badshah, directed by Rajjak. She appeared in around 30 films in total, but has not been active in cinema since 2005. Currently, she lives in the Banashree area of Dhaka with her physically challenged brother and has a son.
