9th National Men’s Baseball Championship to Kick Off in Gazipur ; 14 Teams Competing for Title

The country’s biggest domestic baseball event, the “9th National Men’s Baseball Championship-2026,” is scheduled to commence tomorrow (Friday) to further popularize and expand the sport across Bangladesh, discover talented youth, and strengthen competitive baseball nationwide.
​Organized by the Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Association (BBSA), the highly anticipated three-day tournament will run from June 26 to June 28, 2026, at the Bangladesh Ansar Academy grounds in Shafipur, Gazipur. The announcement was officially made during a press conference held today at the National Hockey Stadium conference room in Dhaka.
​Considered the most prestigious tournament in the national baseball calendar, the competition features top players representing various districts, defense forces, and clubs from across the nation. This year, a total of 14 teams are participating in the tournament, including Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Ansar, Dhaka District, Narayanganj District, Chattogram Baseball Club, Savar Community Club, and others.
​Tournament Format and Fixture
​The championship will be played under a single-elimination knockout format. Reigning champions Bangladesh Ansar and runners-up Bangladesh Police have been seeded 1 and 2, respectively, earning direct byes into the quarter-finals. The remaining 12 teams will face each other in the opening round on June 26 to book their places in the next stage.
​The action begins tomorrow morning at 08:30 AM with the opening match between Naogaon DSA and Dhaka DSA. Quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place on Saturday, June 27, while the third-place decider and the grand finale are scheduled for Sunday, June 28.
​Grand Opening and Closing Ceremonies
​The formal inauguration of the tournament will take place tomorrow at 10:30 AM at the Bangladesh Ansar Academy. Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, has kindly consented to grace the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest.
​The tournament will conclude with a grand closing ceremony on Sunday at 12:30 PM. Md. Aminul Haque, the Honorable State Minister for Youth and Sports, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, has been invited to attend the presentation ceremony as the Chief Guest to hand over the trophies to the winners.
​Prize Money and Special Awards
​To boost motivation, the BBSA has introduced attractive cash prizes alongside trophies and medals for the top-performing teams and individuals:
​Champions: BDT 50,000/-
​Runners-up: BDT 25,000/-
​Third Place: BDT 15,000/-
​Fourth Place: BDT 10,000/-
​Match MVP (Every Match): BDT 1,000/-
​In addition, special individual awards will be presented at the conclusion of the tournament to honor outstanding performances, including titles for the Rising Star, Best Pitcher, Best Batter, and Player of the Final.
​BBSA General Secretary Talha Yubaer expressed his optimism for the event, stating that the association is ensuring full hospitality, including accommodation, meals, travel allowances, and comprehensive medical support for all participants. He extended sincere gratitude to the media for their extensive coverage and continuous support.
