7 suspended in Kashimpur women’s prison escape case

Seven officers and employees, including a prison guard, have been suspended in the case of the escape of a convict named Rimpa (21) from Kashimpur Women’s Central Jail in Gazipur.
The suspended officers and employees are – Metron Laila Anjuman Sumi, Metron Marina, Metron Rehana and female prison guards Shayla, Sharmin, Jamie and Asma.
Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (AIG) Md. Jannatul Farhad confirmed the matter on Saturday (July 18) morning. He said that the punitive action has been taken against those concerned as the initial investigation report found evidence of negligence in performing their duties.
Along with the police, other law enforcement agencies are working to arrest the escaped prisoner. At the same time, an investigation is ongoing to find out how a prisoner managed to escape despite the tight security measures, said Md. Jannatul Farhad.
According to prison sources, about 40 female prisoners were being made to carry bricks inside the prison last Thursday evening. Taking advantage of the lack of supervision by the metro on duty at that time, prisoner Rimpa (21) escaped by climbing the cornice of the wall next to the prison office building and climbing the boundary wall.
Immediately after the incident, the prison authorities searched the entire prison, but no trace of her was found. Later, the authorities confirmed the prisoner’s escape by analyzing the prison’s CCTV footage.
The fugitive Rimpa is the daughter of Md. Hasan of Raipur area of ​​Gangni upazila of Meherpur. She was imprisoned in Kashimpur Central Women’s Prison after being sentenced to three months in a mobile court case in Dhanmondi police station area of ​​Dhaka.
Meanwhile, a case was filed with Konabari Police Station on Friday afternoon by the prison authorities in this incident, said the police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Iftekhar Hossain.
