​Mirsarai Correspondent : Police in separate drives arrested five alleged drug peddlers along with a large cache of contraband Yaba tablets, and two accused in an electrical transformer theft case from Zorarganj Police Station and Baraiyarhat Municipality areas.
​A total of 1,960 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered during these operations, police said.
​According to police sources, a team of Zorarganj police conducted a drive in front of the Uttara bus stand in the Uttar Sonapahar area of Baraiyarhat Municipality on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. During the drive, police arrested two drug peddlers identified as Fatema Akhter (20) and Md. Abdullah (24), both residents of the Leda Rohingya Camp area under Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar. A total of 1,500 pieces of Yaba pills were seized from their possession.
​In another operation in front of the traffic police box in the same area, police arrested two female drug peddlers—Anwara Begum (50) and Alia Begum (35)—along with 445 pieces of Yaba. They are residents of the Morichya Palong area under Ukhiya Upazila.
​Meanwhile, in a separate drive conducted in front of Iliyas Sawdagar’s shop in the Korerhat Bazar area, police arrested another drug peddler named Mukesh Das (26) with 15 Yaba tablets. Mukesh is the son of Tapan Das from the Paragalpur area of Zorarganj Union.
​Apart from the drug busts, police also apprehended two suspects accused in an electrical transformer theft case filed with Zorarganj Police Station. The arrestees were identified as Mehedi Hasan alias Akash (21) and Md. Sayed Shekh (22). They were detained during a drive in the Gopinathpur area of Zorarganj Union on Tuesday afternoon.
​Confirming the matters, Mohammad Abdul Halim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zorarganj Police Station, said that the arrested individuals have been forwarded to the court after necessary legal procedures. He added that such anti-crime drives by the police will continue.
