An awareness workshop for all Zilla Parishad chairmen organized by the National Institute of Local Government was held at the Directorate of Public Health and Engineering in Dhaka today. Md Tajul Islam, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives was present as the chief guest. In the opening speech of the workshop, the Minister of Local Government said that through such a workshop, a close relationship will be established between the Ministry and the Zilla Parishad, which will take us one step further to build the happy and prosperous Bangladesh of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He said that through this workshop, the Zilla Parishad chairmen will get a proper understanding of the scope and jurisdiction of their laws, as a result of which the Zilla Parishad will become stronger. He also said that laws are changing with time. There will be additions, subtractions, changes and amplifications of laws. He also expects that the chairmen of the Zilla Parishad will know the rules and regulations of the law through this workshop and will serve the people accordingly. The minister said that through the law, the chairmen of the district councils have been empowered and their accountability has been ensured within the law. At this time, he urged the chairmen of the district council to focus on the development work of the district with all the members of the council. He said that it is not possible to build a developed Bangladesh by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by 2041, excluding the Zilla Parishad. The local government minister urged the Zilla Parishad chairmen to forget all differences and work together to build a better and smarter Bangladesh. The Minister of Local Government expressed hope that this training workshop will enrich the knowledge and scope of district chairmen. At this time, Local Government Minister Md. Tajul Islam answered the various questions and queries of the Zilla Parishad chairmen. Local Government Department Secretary Muhammad presided over the notification workshop.
