Week-long cleanliness drive inaugurated in Pirojpur on World Environment Day

Pirojpur Correspondent: With the theme of ‘Keep our own yard clean’ and ‘Build a beautiful and healthy Bangladesh’, a week-long special cleanliness program has been inaugurated in Pirojpur on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026 on June 5.
‎On Friday morning, this humanitarian program began with the cleaning of an important pond in the city at the initiative of Pirojpur District Council. The program was inaugurated by Pirojpur District Council Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain. Senior officials and employees of the District Council, local BNP leaders and people from different classes and professions participated spontaneously in the inaugural ceremony.
In his inaugural speech, Principal Alamgir Hossain highlighted the historical and social importance of the pond and said, “It is known to the public as the ‘pond next to Huzur’s house’. Since it is located in the center of the municipality area, many locals use it for their daily needs. Since the water body has become unusable due to long-term neglect and neglect, we have taken special initiatives to clean it in consideration of environmental protection and public interest.”
He also said, “Our awareness and collective efforts are the greatest strength in preventing environmental pollution. It is the responsibility of all of us to keep our yards clean. We will gradually complete the work of cleaning and de-polluting all the ponds in the district under the control of the Zilla Parishad.”
Appreciating the initiative to clean the pond, the general public of the area thanked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of Bangladesh and the Zilla Parishad Administrator. They said that if this pond is cleaned, about 1,000 families will benefit from using the water from the pond.
It is noteworthy that under this week-long special campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day, a total of 112 ponds under the control of Pirojpur District Council will be renovated and cleaned in phases.
