 Several initiatives have been taken in Brahmanbaria to bring order to the roads. Notable among these is that if a driver does not have a helmet on his head, fuel will not be supplied to the motorcycle from any pump. This decision will be effective from April 10. The slogan has been fixed for this purpose, ‘I will give fuel after seeing the helmet, I will be helpful in saving lives. Don’t wear helmets, save lives. Banners will be hoisted at all the pumps and miking will be done in the entire district. The decision was taken in the ‘discussion meeting with the owners of vehicle fuel suppliers in the district administration and BRTA’s initiative at Brahmanbaria District Commissioner’s office on Tuesday afternoon. It was informed in the meeting, to continue the operation to catch undocumented vehicles and unlicensed drivers, 10 decisions were taken including taking strict measures including fines if necessary, if gas is given below the prescribed pressure in CNG pumps. It is said that after the next three months, a meeting will be held again regarding the implementation of these issues. At that time several pumps were accused of supplying adulterated fuel and giving less weight. A warning was issued in the meeting by the concerned parties that strict action will be taken in these matters. The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner. Shahgir Alam. Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) spoke among others. Zainal Abedin, Additional District Magistrate Helena Parveen, Sub-Divisional Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Daisy Roy Tumpa, Assistant Director of BRTA Abu Ashraf Siddiqui, Assistant Director of BSTIA Comilla Anisur Rahman, President of Brahmanbaria District Bus Owners Association. Ahid Mia and General Secretary Md. Hanif Mia, CNG pump owner Shahedul Islam, Tofazzal Hossain, journalist A. F. M Kaushar Emran, Ujjal Chakraborty, Kaler Kanthe district representative journalist Biswajit Pal Babu, Shahadat Hossain and others spoke. District Commissioner Md. Shahgir Alam said that all kinds of initiatives will be taken to restore order on the roads. More meetings will be held before Eid to discuss the series. However, he called upon the administration as well as all concerned to work with responsibility.
