On the occasion of National Tea Day-2026, top tea gardens, institutions and individuals were honored in various categories in recognition of their special contribution to the country’s tea industry. These awards were given for their significant contribution to increasing production, improving quality, innovative marketing, worker welfare and producing nutritious tea. The names of the awardees and institutions were announced at the 6th National Tea Day celebration held at the Auditorium cum Multipurpose Hall in Srimangal, known as the ‘Capital of Tea’, on Saturday (June 20) and they were presented with commemorative mementos and certificates. Earlier, the chief guest of the event, local MP Md. Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, inaugurated the day by releasing balloons and festoons. The chief guest MP said, tea is not just a drink; it is closely related to the history, economy and livelihood of millions of people of Bangladesh. The country’s tea industry must move forward with a new conviction to make it more modern, sustainable and international. Referring to the contribution of tea workers, he said, without the hard work of tea workers, this industry could not have come this far. It is our responsibility to ensure their fair wages, improved housing, education, healthcare and social security. He further said, Srimangal is not only the heart of the country’s tea industry, it is also one of the most promising tourism regions in Bangladesh. There is huge potential to develop international standard ‘tea tourism’ centered on green tea gardens, haors, chhara, national parks and the diverse culture of small ethnic groups. To this end, he proposed the formation of the ‘Srimangal Tourism Development Authority’ to the government. Speaking as the chairman of the program, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Ataur Rahman Khan said that the government is sincere and committed to the sustainable development of the country’s tea industry and improving the quality of life of tea workers. He said that for the progress of the tea industry, coordination and mutual cooperation between workers, owners, traders and all concerned parties must be increased. The government is seriously considering the issue of ensuring fair wages and welfare of tea workers in particular. Bangladesh Tea Board Chairman Major General Md. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech at the inauguration ceremony. In addition, Bangladesh Tea Association Chairman Kamran T. Rahman, Bangladesh Tea Traders Association Chairman Shah Mainuddin Hasan, Tea Planters and Traders Association Acting President Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Broad Leaf Tea Factory Owners Association President Niaz Ali Chishti delivered speeches as special guests. Officials of government and private departments, tea garden owners, tea workers and media personnel were present at the event. This time, Sri Gobindapur Tea Garden has been selected as the highest producing tea garden per acre. Madhupur Tea Garden has been recognized as the highest quality tea producing garden. In addition, The Consolidated Tea and Lands Company (Bangladesh) Limited has been awarded as the best tea exporter. Md. Matiar Rahman of Sonapatila village in Atwari upazila of Panchagarh was selected as the best small-scale tea producer. On the other hand, Mirzapur tea garden was awarded as the best tea garden for its special contribution to the welfare of workers.
Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Limited won special awards in two separate categories in recognition of its contribution to innovative marketing of tea products and marketing of nutritious and quality tea blends. In addition, Jasmine Oraon of Nepucha tea garden was awarded as the best tea leaf picker in the labor-related category. Srishti Tea Limited located in Jagdal area of ​​Panchagarh Sadar upazila was selected as the best bot leaf tea factory as the special award of the National Tea Day. After the ceremony, the guests visited various stalls of the tea fair organized on the occasion of National Tea Day and exchanged views with buyers and sellers on tea production, marketing and market management.
