Due to the upstream hill slopes and heavy rains, the Teesta river is rising and flowing over the border.  As a result, the lower area of ​​Lalmonirhat on the left bank of Teesta river has been flooded.
On Friday (August 25) around 12 noon, Teesta water flow was recorded at 52.18 meters at Teesta Barrage Dalia Point of Hatibandha Upazila of Lalmonirhat, the country’s largest irrigation project.  which (normal 52.15 m) is flowing 3 cm above the boundary line.  Earlier, it had crossed the threshold on August 14 but fell back a day later.  The people of Tistapar are worried about the threat of flooding again without getting over the threat of flood.
People near the barrage and the river bank said that the flow of Teesta river has increased due to intermittent heavy rains and hill slopes in the last few days.  All sluices of Teesta Barrage have been opened to control the flow of water.
The water started to rise from last Thursday (August 24) night and around 9 am on Friday the Teesta water flowed along the Bipatseema at Dalia Point.  It gradually increased and after 3 hours it flowed 3 cm above the boundary line at around 12 noon.  The barrage authorities said that due to heavy rainfall upstream and Teesta water flow in India’s Ghazaldoba, the upstream surge has increased the water flow at Dalia Point.
The riverside people said that due to rising water, the low lying areas along the banks of Lalmonirhat district on the left bank of Teesta river have been flooded.  Crop fields in low-lying areas are flooded.  The families in the lower areas are becoming watertight.  The number of which is gradually increasing.  Char area communication has already been cut off.
Azizul Islam of Char Govardhan area said that the water is increasing in Teesta since night.  The low-lying areas along the river banks were flooded.  Crop fields, roads and ponds were submerged.  Boats have to be used to go from one house to another.  Hundreds of families in the low-lying areas have become waterlogged.

Abdul Matin of Haldibari Char said that when the water in the river rises, the people of Char area become waterlogged.  There is a fear of flooding during monsoons.  I have been stuck in water since the night.  The water is gradually increasing.  All around is water and water.  The riverside people have to spend sleepless nights sitting on Machang with their families.  In these areas, they are in extreme danger with children, old people and livestock.

Water Development Board (PUBO) Teesta Barrage Dalia Branch Executive Engineer Asfa-ud-Daula said, the flow of Teesta water has increased due to heavy rains and hill slopes upstream.  All water closets are opened and water flow is controlled.  A further 3 centimeters rose in 3 hours after crossing the 9am mark on Friday.  At present, Teesta water is flowing 3 cm above the boundary line at Dalia Point.  If rainfall decreases upstream, water flow will decrease.
