Friendship on Facebook, intimacy on Messenger, personal moments on video calls—then the blackmail allegations began. Such allegations surrounding an alleged honeytrap ring active in the capital have come under renewed discussion. Situl Muna Chowdhury is at the center of the allegations.
Various sources claim that friendships were first built by targeting influential people, businessmen and the wealthy on social media. Later, photos and videos were secretly recorded through video calls or personal meetings and used to demand large sums of money.

There are allegations that this activity was carried out using flats, hotels and resorts in various elite areas of Dhaka including Dhanmondi, Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Niketan, Mirpur and Uttara. Recently, such allegations have also come to light regarding a flat in Mirpur-2 area.
According to multiple sources, Situl Muna Chowdhury has been married multiple times in the past and has been accused of developing close relationships with various people and later extorting money through blackmail. However, he has not commented on these allegations.
Golam Mostafa (Mostafa Sardar), who is identified as Muna’s former close associate, claims that he is no longer involved in such activities and has distanced himself from them.
A bank official, who did not wish to be named, alleged that a huge amount of money was also extorted from him through blackmail by taking advantage of his long-standing acquaintance.
The sources claim that there are also allegations of lawsuits, social humiliation or various types of pressure if the money or benefits demanded are not provided. There have even been allegations of extortion of money in the name of compromise.
According to intelligence sources, currently honeytrap rings are not only being used to extort money, but also as a tool for collecting sensitive information of influential people and blackmailing them. Sources have said that several law enforcement agencies have increased surveillance on the activities of such rings.
However, it is to be noted that all the issues mentioned in the report have been presented on the basis of various sources and allegations. The allegations raised against the concerned persons have not been proven in court and their statements will be published if they are received.
