BNP’s excuse for rapists’ violence

Md. Moniruzzaman:

Serious allegations have been made that the accused in the case filed in the gang rape of a schoolgirl at Pagla Police Station in Mymensingh are roaming in public using political influence and are continuously threatening and pressuring the victim’s family.
At a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club on Saturday (April 11) morning, the victim’s elder sister complained that her sister was gang raped under the leadership of Jubo Dal leader Mosharraf Hossain Manik in the Dubail area of Pagla Police Station on December 21 last year. When she went to file a case at the police station immediately after the incident, the police station refused to accept the complaint. Later, when she was forced to file a case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, the case was registered at Pagla Police Station on March 7. After the primary investigation revealed the truth of the incident, the police arrested the main accused, but the other accused are still at large.
It was further alleged at the press conference that since the arrest, the remaining accused and their associates have been pressuring the victim’s family to withdraw the case. They are being prevented from leaving their homes and are even being threatened with death. Not only that, the victim’s family had to secretly come to Mymensingh in the dark of night to hold a press conference.
Meanwhile, the rape victim’s school has been stopped due to the threats of the accused. Although she was supposed to appear for the SSC exam this year, it is now uncertain due to insecurity.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station Md. Aminul Islam said that the police are aware of the threats to the victim’s family, but it has not been possible to arrest the absconding accused yet. The police are unable to find the accused.
It is worth noting that the main accused in the case, Mosharraf Hossain Manik, is the nephew of Sheikh Mohammad Ishaq, former general secretary of Gafargaon Upazila BNP and former joint convener of Pagla Thana BNP, and the son of Sheikh Mohammad Ismat, former member of Pagla Thana BNP.
