Local people from all walks of life held press conferences and huge gatherings at different places for two consecutive days, demanding the division of Haldia Palong Union in Ukhia “individual by individual” based on logic and fairness.
A press conference was held at Morichya Bazar Station on Tuesday, July 21, and a handshake was held in front of the Haldia Palong Union Parishad on Wednesday, July 22, to protest the proposed inclusion of the main part of Haldia in Rumkha Palong Union.
Speakers at the rally thanked Ukhia-Teknaf MP Alhaj Shahjahan Chowdhury for taking the initiative to divide the union. At the same time, they said that to remove inequality and for the benefit of the people, it is necessary to divide the Haldia union on the basis of fairness and rational boundaries, especially by mining the plots, so that the division becomes permanent.
The speakers declared and claimed that if this division is carried out according to the above-mentioned rules, there will be no strong objection from the common people of the area. They further declared that if the union does not divide fairly and fairly, and if the division does not reflect the will of the common people, then more stringent programs will be implemented later.
Former student leader Muhammad Jahangir Alam, Maulana Jahangir Rafiq, journalists Sohel Sikder Rana, Yusuf Muhammad Bappi, Mozammel Haque Sikder, Mao Mohammad Ismail, Mohammad Sadeq and other prominent figures of the area spoke at the event.
