A press conference was held to mark the 12th anniversary of the sensational terrorist attack and looting incident in Comilla Sadar South.
At a press conference held at a hotel in Comilla at 11 am on Monday, the victim of the incident, Md. Yasin, said, “Dear journalist brothers, you have responded to the call of an innocent person like me and have come to the press conference. My sincere greetings and best wishes to all of you. I am deeply saddened to inform you that my house in Kotbari Jammura, Sadar Dakshin Upazila, Comilla, was attacked by terrorists late at night and houses and shops were looted. On July 5, 2024, I built a house on the north side of the road adjacent to the Jammura Army Camp in Sadar Dakshin Upazila. I have been doing business with a restaurant, hotel and grocery shop next to the house. In the meantime, Saddam Hossain, son of Montaz Mia of Pakamura village, is threatening me in various ways to occupy my place. He has threatened that if I do not sell the place to him, he will kill me and evict my family from here at any cost.” In this continuation, under the direct and indirect orders of Shafiul Alam Choton, son of Md. Abdur Rashid, resident of Bashundhara Bhatra Khilkhet Dhaka, Saddam Hossain, son of Montaz Mia of Pakamura village, Md. Faruk Hossain, son of Abul Kalam, Md. Yusuf, son of Sekantar Ali of Fenua village of Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station, and Shamsul Haque Samu of Kotwali Satra area, at least 25/30 terrorists led by local weapons vandalized my shop and house indiscriminately, looted the fridge, gas cylinder stove, groceries and important documents including gold, cash, passport, ID card and other items in the steel cupboard inside the house and filled the truck with them, taking away at least more than 30 lakh taka of my belongings. They took away 22 goats that I had raised. I was helpless and called the army camp nearby, but I could not get a connection there, so I requested a member of the army and informed the police station. On receiving the information, a team from Kotbari Police Station reached the spot and arrested Md. Faruk Hossain, son of Abul Kalam of Pakamura village of Kotwali Police Station, and Yusuf, son of the deceased Sekandar Ali of Fenua village. They took him to the police station. That day, I filed a case against 25/30 unknown people, mentioning the names of 5 people. The investigating officer of the case, SI Arifur Rahman, completed the investigation and submitted a report in favor of accused number 5, excluding him from the court and writing various praise songs. I have filed two cases in the learned court as a plaintiff against accused number 5 on the charge of encroachment on the land, and the case is currently ongoing. I am being harassed in various ways because I filed a case against the influential Shafiul Alam Choton. Also, a few days before the vandalism and looting, accused number 1 Saddam Hossain took me in his private car and took me to the Kotbari Magic Paradise ghost house, held a pistol to my head and threatened me. He vandalized my mobile phone set and snatched away 18 thousand taka in cash from my wallet. At that time, I could not open my mouth due to fear of them. In the report submitted to the court, the investigating officer submitted a responsible report, without mentioning who was involved in the incident and how. I learned from a lawyer that the court has reprimanded the investigating officer on this matter. Currently, the court has assigned the responsibility to Kotbari Police Sub-Inspector Titu to re-investigate my case. I want to tell the journalist brothers that I am an innocent person, I want justice for all those involved in this heinous incident. I have made a heartfelt appeal to the current investigating officer to conduct a proper investigation of my case and submit a report to the court. And I strongly demand that those involved in the incident be arrested and sent to jail soon. The accused are still threatening me in various ways, they know they will kill me, I am currently insecure, they can commit heinous acts like killing Ana at any time, I hope that the relevant legal aid organizations will provide me with all possible cooperation.
