An Upazila Jubo Dal worker named A.K.M. Riad Haque (24) was killed in a road accident in Phulpur, Mymensingh.
The accident occurred in front of the Phulpur Karaha BRAC office on the Mymensingh-Sherpur highway at around 3 am on Wednesday (April 1). The deceased Riad is the eldest son of Nabi Hossain, a prominent timber merchant from Diu Madhyapara village in Ward No. 8 of Phulpur Municipality, and the nephew of Mymensingh North District Jubo Dal leader Waheduzzaman Mithun. He was a soil contractor by profession. According to local and police sources, their speeding drum truck hit the car in front of them, trapping the driver Riad and two others inside. On receiving the information, the Phulpur Fire Service arrived and cut off the car and rescued them, but Riad died shortly after in a critical condition. Meanwhile, a Facebook post made by Riyad just 3-4 hours before his death is now viral on social media. There, he wrote, “If you fall in love, fall in love with the Lord, whose ultimate end is only Paradise.” His last message has caused widespread emotion and grief among the locals. He is scheduled to be buried in the family graveyard after the Asr funeral prayer today.
Phulpur Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Rakibul Islam said that Riyad’s death in a road accident is very sad and the matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
