Miscreants open fire on Padma River in Haripur area of Kushtia: At least 6 people, including 5 policeman,injured

April 23, 2026. At least six people, including five policemen, were injured in a shootout by miscreants on the Padma River in Haripur area of Kushtia. The condition of one of the injured is critical. The incident took place on Tuesday night.
Police said that a team from Laxmikunda Naval Police Camp in Ishwardi Upazila went on a boat operation to Haripur point of the Padma River. At that time, a group of armed criminals who had already taken up position in the area suddenly opened fire on the police.
Police said that a team led by Inspector Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of Laxmikunda Naval Police Camp, was attacked while on patrol. Five policemen and the boatman carrying them were also injured in the shooting.
The injured policemen are Inspector Shafiqul Islam (Camp In-Charge), Constable Enamul Haque, Constable Shahinur Haque, Constable Nazmul Hasan and Constable Manik Mia.
The injured in the attack were quickly rescued and admitted to Pabna General Hospital. However, Constable Shahinur Haque was shot in the eye and was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Wednesday morning for better treatment.
The SP further said that the matter has been reported to the higher authorities. A committee has been formed to conduct a joint operation involving Pabna District Police, Kushtia District Police and Naval Police to arrest the attackers and strengthen security in the area.
