National Livestock Week-2025 has started with the theme ‘Local breeds, modern technology: Improvement in livestock’.
On this occasion, the Gazipur Sadar Upazila Administration and the Sadar Upazila Livestock Department and Veterinary Hospital jointly organized a colorful procession, discussion meeting and livestock exhibition at the Rathkhola field in the metropolis on Wednesday (November 26).
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alam Hossain spoke as the chief guest at the discussion held under the chairmanship of Gazipur Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Sazzat Hossain and moderated by Md. Sajib Mahmud.
Gazipur Superintendent of Police Dr. Chowdhury Jaber Sadek and District Livestock Officer Dr. Nargis Khanam spoke as special guests.
Among others, farmer Masudul Kabir Monayem spoke.
Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Mohammad Shahin Mia delivered the welcome speech at the event.
The speakers said that the livestock sector is playing an important role in the overall socio-economic development of Bangladesh. Referring to the various steps taken by the government to control the disease, the speakers also said that 1.7 million doses of vaccine have been administered to prevent Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), zoning activities have been implemented in specific areas to eradicate FMD, and about 60 million doses of vaccine have been administered to control PPR disease in goats. The celebration of National Livestock Week 2025 will further strengthen the spread of modern technology, safe food production, creation of women and youth entrepreneurs, achievement of international standards, and government-private coordination. He expressed gratitude that the role of journalists is very important in developing the livestock sector and making people aware.
Earlier, guests inaugurated the National Livestock Week by releasing pigeons and colorful balloons.
On this occasion, a day-long livestock exhibition was held at the Rathkhola ground in the city. Entrepreneurs and farmers displayed cattle, birds, poultry and poultry in 30 stalls at the exhibition. Guests and people from different walks of life visited the exhibition stalls. At the end, prizes were given to successful entrepreneurs and farmers. Other programs of the week at the district and upazila levels include mobile court campaigns on livestock, artificial insemination services and free veterinary medical camps, school feeding programs and discussion meetings in various schools, colleges and madrasas, painting and quiz competitions, and on the last day, a meeting and closing ceremony titled Ideas of young and women entrepreneurs and stakeholders for sustainable development of livestock.
A colorful procession was taken out at the end of the meeting.
