Habibur Rahman, Kushtia District Correspondent: Kushtia district In Bheramara Upazila the connection was disconnected for non-payment of 4 months’ electricity bill, Abdur Rahim (25), the son of an electricity customer, got angry and shot 2 rounds with an illegal firearm at a rural electricity worker. When the two bullets missed the target, and when there were no more bullets, he caught hold of lineman Sohag (35) and hit him with the butt of the weapon, causing serious bloody injuries and unconsciousness. When the lineman fell to the ground, the miscreants fled.
Upon receiving the information, DGM of Kushtia Rural Electricity Association, Bheramara Zonal Office Md. Jahangir Alam quickly went to the spot and rescued the seriously injured lineman Sohag Mia from there and admitted him to Bheramara Health Complex.
The incident took place on Tuesday, September 23 at around 11 am in Madhabpur village of Bahadurpur union in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia. According to the office of the Bheramara Rural Electricity Association, the electricity bill of Tajmal Hossain of Madhabpur village of Bahadurpur union in Bheramara upazila under Account No. 106/2030, Category-Residential, for the house meter of June, July, August, September/25 is outstanding for four months. He was repeatedly called to pay. He went to the customer’s house at 11 am today on Tuesday to pay the outstanding electricity bill of Tk 4921.00. The customer said that he would not pay the electricity bill. Then the linemen said that then they cut the line. The son Abdur Rahim (25) said that he cut the line. When the connection was disconnected as per the rules, Rahim attacked the linemen Sohag and Rahul. Angry, Abdur Rahim brought illegal firearms from the house. When the linemen saw the weapons, they ran and fired two rounds of bullets, but they missed the target. When there was no more bullets, one of the linemen, Sohag Mia, was caught and beaten severely and hit with the butt of the weapon, causing serious bloody injuries. The lineman was lying unconscious after being beaten and the local people informed the office. DGM of Kushtia Rural Electricity Association, Bheramara Zonal Office, Md. Jahangir Alam said that in Madhabpur village of Bahadurpur union of the district, electricity consumer Tajmal Hossain Account No. 106/2030, had a bill outstanding for 4 months, and as per the office rules, the line was disconnected after being told and discussed. The customer’s son Abdur Rahim got angry and started shooting at my linemen, then he beat them severely and hit them with the butt of the firearm, causing serious injuries. The local administration concerned has been informed to give exemplary legal punishment to the guilty person Abdur Rahim in this incident. In the incident of disconnection due to non-payment of the outstanding electricity bill, the customer’s son Abdur Rahim got angry and attacked the lineman with an illegal firearm, fired 2 rounds and illegally injured him seriously. Md. Akram Hossain AGM, O&M (A.D.) Bheramara Zonal Office, Kushtia Rural Bidyut Samity has filed a complaint with Bheramara Police Station, accusing Abdur Rahim. Case No. 18 dated 23/9/25.
