Staff Reporter: The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India, Dhaka, hosted a vibrant programme to celebrate the 10th National Ayurveda Day 2025, bringing together dignitaries, medical experts, yoga practitioners, and Bangladeshi youth.
This year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People, Ayurveda for Planet”, highlighted Ayurveda’s role in promoting both personal well-being and ecological balance. Ms. Ann Mary George, Director of IGCC, emphasized the deep cultural and medical ties between India and Bangladesh, noting Ayurveda’s long-standing practice in the country alongside Unani, Yoga, and Homoeopathy. She also highlighted opportunities for research collaboration and student exchanges in traditional medicine.
Dr. Sarik Hasan Khan, Vice Principal of the Government Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College, Dhaka, delivered the keynote, underscoring the preventive healthcare benefits of Ayurveda and Unani systems. The event featured a short film on the “Journey of Ayurveda,” a yoga demonstration by Ms. Shahanaz Parvin Shikha, and an interactive session led by Ms. Farhana Sultana Karim.
The celebration also aligned with India’s Swasth Bharat Yojana, reinforcing healthcare infrastructure, biomedical research, and the “One Health” approach linking human, animal, and environmental well-being. The event reflected Ayurveda’s enduring relevance and strengthened the bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
