Staff reporter: Rajbari Pansha in demanding marriage over affair without divorcing first husband Mariam, wife of expatriate Momidul Islam, son of Khalek Mandal of Babupara Union of the upazila, went on hunger strike at lover Kamrul’s house. When asked about the matter, Mariam, who was staying at Kamrul’s house demanding marriage, said, “My relationship with Kamrul for 8-9 months has become known to my in-laws, so I went to Kamrul’s house around 12 midnight yesterday. Now I have to marry Kamrul because I can no longer go to my in-laws’ house.” When asked about the marriage before, Mariam said, “I have a five-year-old child from my previous relationship, my husband lives abroad, and I have not yet divorced him.” When asked if she could marry another boy without getting a divorce, Maryam said, “I don’t understand that much. Since my in-laws’ family has found out, now Kamrul will have to marry me.” When she went to Kamrul’s house and tried to contact him about this, Kamrul’s family said that his mobile phone was switched off and that he had left home because his brothers had beaten him up for this incident.
