Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the government is determined to ensure an environment where every person in the country, regardless of party, opinion, religion or caste, can live in peace and security.

He said that building a state and society where every citizen of the country can freely practice their religious customs and enjoy their own rights is the main responsibility and commitment of our government.

The Prime Minister said these things while exchanging greetings with leaders of the Buddhist community on the occasion of Happy Buddhist Purnima at the Public Administration Meeting Room of the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat this morning (Thursday).

The Prime Minister said, “Religion belongs to everyone, everyone has the right to security. The current government does not want to do politics with religion.”

He said, “We do not want to use religion for political interests, we have not done so in the past either. Regardless of religion or caste, all Bengalis and non-Bengalis will enjoy equal rights in all fields, this is the policy of the current government.”

Tarique Rahman said, “The freedom fighters of Bangladesh achieved independence with the desire to build a safe Bangladesh for every person, believer or non-believer, regardless of religion or caste. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, we liberated this country at the cost of millions of lives. Therefore, this independent Bangladesh belongs to you, me, and all of us.”

Referring to the current government’s political philosophy, ‘Bangladeshi nationalism,’ the Prime Minister said, Bangladesh has repeatedly proven that only the philosophy of Bangladeshi nationalism can ensure close coexistence of all castes, religious communities, and ethnic groups in the country.

She also said, “None of you should ever consider yourselves a minority.”

At the beginning, greeting Buddhists around the world, the Prime Minister said, “Every religion calls people towards welfare. The main religious leader of Buddhism, Mahamati Gautam Buddha, gave the Panchasila principle to his followers.”

He said, these five precepts are not to kill animals, not to steal, not to commit adultery, not to lie and to abstain from drugs. Love, non-violence and kindness to all living beings are also teachings of Buddhism.

The Prime Minister said, if every citizen follows his religious instructions properly along with the state rules, we will all be able to build a humane state and society together.

During the exchange of greetings, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Religious Affairs Minister Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipen Dewan, Minister of State Mir Helal Uddin, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Ethnic Affairs Bijan Kanti Sarkar, Member of Parliament from Hill District Bandarban Saching Pru Jerry, BNP-nominated reserved women MP candidate from the Hill Tracts Madhavi Marma and Dr. Sukomal Baroya were present.

At this time, a greeting crest and a replica of the Buddha statue were presented to the Prime Minister on behalf of the Buddhist community.
