Mohammad Masud Majumder:
Fisheries, Livestock, and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid today said that the current government is deeply committed and sincere in protecting the religious freedom and communal harmony of every citizen in the country.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest while addressing the traditional Ratha Yatra festival of the Hindu community in Cumilla this afternoon.
“Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony spanning thousands of years. The history of Cumilla is also one of peaceful coexistence among Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, and Christian communities,” the minister said.
He pointed out that while certain vested quarters have historically tried to reap benefits by sowing seeds of communal discord, they have never succeeded due to the vigilance of the citizens.
“We believe that no one will succeed in disruptive attempts to ruin our communal harmony in the future either. Just as our ancestors lived together with mutual respect and love, we must also leave behind a peaceful, harmonious Bangladesh for future generations,” he added.
“No religion in the world supports injustice. Every faith teaches justice, human welfare, and peace. Therefore, religion should not be a tool for division, but a medium to bind us in human values and harmony.”
Appreciating the spontaneous participation of the local Hindu community and the general public, the minister noted that the large gathering and excellent organization reflected a strengthening of mutual brotherhood. He urged everyone to uphold tolerance, harmony, and mutual respect to build a non-sectarian, peaceful, and prosperous Bangladesh.
The event was attended, among others, by Md. Yousuf Molla Tipu, Administrator of Cumilla City Corporation; Udbatul Bari Abu, Chairman of Cumilla Development Authority; Rozy Akter, Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla; Md. Anisuzzaman (PPM-Seba), Superintendent of Police; Fatema Tuz Johra, Cumilla Adarsha Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO); and prominent leaders and devotees of the Hindu community.
