The 6th Upazila Parishad election of the second phase of Galachipa Upazila of Patuakhali ended after many speculations.
With the participation of eager voters, polling was held peacefully continuously from 8 am to 4 pm in total 80 polling stations on Saturday, May 21.
In this Wana Marzia Nitu (Pineapple) got 45 thousand 4′ hundred 46 votes and was elected upazila parishad chairman privately, his opponent Md. Shahin (Ghora) took part in the election battle as the chairman candidate with 29 thousand 8′ hundred 97 votes.
On the other hand, Md. Farid Ahsan Kachin (flying ship) got 41,873 votes and won privately as vice chairman. His rival candidate Md. Rezaul Kabir Molla (Tala) got 2,700 30 votes, Md. Rifat Hossain (Tubewell) 25,706 and Md. Nizam Uddin Talukder (Chashma) got 3,613 votes.
Besides, female vice-chairman Tahmina Akhter won privately by getting 31,807 votes, while her rival candidate Shirin Nahar Akhtar (flower tub) got 9,452 votes, and Helena Begum (jug) got 9,452 votes. A total of 31 thousand 3 hundred and 33 votes were contested for the post of female vice chairman. Upazila Assistant Returning Officer Md. Zahirul Islam announced the results after receiving the latest results from all centers in Galachipa Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Monday.
