The police have arrested four people for their involvement in the robbery of a moving bus on the Tangail-Mymensingh regional highway between Madhupur and Ghatail upazilas of Tangail. They were arrested on Wednesday after conducting raids at various places in Tangail and Gazipur districts. On Wednesday (April 5) afternoon, Tangail Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Qaiser announced the arrest in a press conference held at his office. The arrested are – son of Shah Alam of Dalpur village of Madhupur upazila of Tangail. Ratan (21), Arif Hossain (26) son of Jahu Mia of Maizbari village, Saiful Islam (25) son of Dudu Mia of Falda village of Bhuyapur upazila and Sujan Mia (22) son of Anwarul Islam of Kherua Alam village of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur. The Superintendent of Police said that a robbery took place on Monday (April 3) at around 1:30 a.m. on a passenger bus called Motherganj Special bound for Motherganj from Dhaka. When 7-8 robbers with more passengers reached the place called Matabari Jorabij of Ghatail upazila on the Tangail-Mymensingh regional highway, they took control of the bus at gunpoint. Later, they took the passengers’ money, gold chains and mobile phones and went down to Madhupur area. At this time, several people were injured by their sharp weapons. Superintendent of Police said that after the incident, the passenger of that bus, Arifur Rahman, filed a case at Madhupur police station. After the incident, a team consisting of Madhupur Police Station and District Detective Police (North) entered the field to arrest those involved in the incident. Using intelligence and information technology to identify those involved in the robbery. Wednesday at 7 am. Ratan was first arrested from Montala village of Gopalpur upazila in Tangail. A stolen mobile phone set and a knife used in the robbery were recovered from him. Later, according to the information given by him, Sujan Mia and Arif Hossain were arrested from Safipur Udal Setu area of Kaliakair Upazila of Gazipur around 11:30 on Wednesday. Saiful Islam was arrested in front of Fantasy Kingdom in Ashulia around 1 pm on Wednesday. He said that during the initial interrogation, they admitted to involvement in the robbery and told the police that eight people participated in the robbery. From that bus, they looted 13 mobile phone sets, a gold chain and goods worth about three lakh rupees. The arrested will be produced in court on Thursday (April 6) and remanded for 10 days for questioning.
