Sports Desk : The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to start from today. However, Chennai Super Kings have suffered a setback at the beginning of the season. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the most experienced member of the team, may be out of the field for the first two weeks due to injury.
In a statement on Saturday morning, Chennai said that Dhoni is undergoing rehabilitation to recover from a calf injury. As a result, the team may have to play without him in the initial part of the tournament.
Chennai Super Kings will play their first match against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30.
Dhoni, who is turning 45 this year, is at the top of the list of cricketers who have played the most matches in the IPL with 278 matches so far. Apart from him, there are 3 more wicketkeeper-batsmen in the Chennai camp – Sanju Samson, Kartik Sharma and Urvil Patel.
Despite suffering from knee injuries over the past few years, Dhoni has played regularly in the IPL and led Chennai to their fifth title in 2023.
Chennai will have to play against Punjab, Bangalore and Delhi in the two weeks of Dhoni’s possible absence.
