Due to its geographical location, people choose Debidwar Upazila for medical treatment after Comilla. Almost every day, at least a thousand people receive medical services, both indoor and outdoor, at the Debidwar Upazila Health Complex.
Due to this, under the pressure of heavy patients, the doctors of the health complex wrote unapproved fake medicine prescriptions. Today, Thursday (April 23), at approximately 12 noon, Dr. Golam Rashed, a junior consultant at the Upazila Health Complex, wrote an unapproved adulterated medicine prescription in room 203 of his chamber.Â
After receiving treatment, the victim went to a local pharmacy and they informed her that the two medicines prescribed were unapproved and adulterated. The names of the medicines prescribed were inj. Galphar-D3 (300000-UI), Cap. Glujoint. Most of the doctors in Debidwar are involved in such activities. Even after complaining about several doctors in the past, the people of Debidwar have not seen any action. When a video of the recent incident went viral on social media, it is known that many health officials are involved.Â
When the accused doctor Golam Rashed was directly asked about this, he did not give any answer as to why he prescribed fake medicine. He wrote it wrong and ran away before the specified working hours and went to the health officer. When he was asked there too, he did not give any answer.Â
An SR of an approved pharmaceutical company, who did not want to be named, said that doctors prescribe fake medicines in exchange for huge sums of money from fake companies. Due to which, the patients are at extreme risk of death. This is controlled by the locals.
A pharmacy owner, who asked not to be named, said, “The interference of local political leaders is such a butchery. If we do not stock such fake medicines, they beat us up. They threaten to close the business. They threaten us saying why should we not sell if a doctor can prescribe it. Even though a good authorized company in the country sells similar medicines for just 120 taka, they have to sell their adulterated medicines for 400 to 500 taka per piece. We also want justice for the members of this gang.”Â
Dr. Mohibus Salam, an official at the Debidwar Upazila Health Complex, said, “I don’t know whether the medicines are fake or good. I will talk about the details after knowing.”
In this regard, Comilla Civil Surgeon Dr. Alinur Bashir said, “We are not aware that the doctor prescribed fake medicine. We will take action if we receive a complaint in this regard.”
