Special Correspondent: Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram has said that the most important and sacred responsibility of the current government is to take care of the families of the martyrs of the July Uprising and ensure the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured.
He said, “The most important task of this government of Bangladesh is to take care of the families of those who sacrificed their lives in July. This is the most sacred responsibility. It is the sacred responsibility of the government to heal those who were injured, lost their eyesight, lost their limbs.”
He said this in his speech as the chief guest at the reception and discussion meeting of the families of the July martyrs and July fighters organized at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center today on the occasion of the ‘July Uprising Day 2026’.
Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram said, “Today, the Great July Uprising Day, is an unforgettable day written in golden letters in the history of the nation. It is the day of victory of the freedom-loving students and masses in protecting democracy, justice and human dignity. On this day in 2024, the long-standing dictatorial and fascist rule came to an end in the face of the intense mass uprising of the students and masses. The fascist government was forced to flee. The country was liberated, a new dawn dawned.
He remembered with deep respect the martyrs of the July Uprising including Abu Sayeed, Mughd, Wasim, Yamin, Farhan, Nafiz, Sajal, Rabbi, Meraj, Elem, Taim, Naima, little children Riya Gop and Ahad, and prayed for the forgiveness of their souls, and said that their sacrifice and patriotism will inspire the nation forever.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that he was very impressed to see a mother attending the event with her blind son.
He said that this young man lost his sight to restore democracy and establish the rule of law. If they do not get due respect and have to go door to door of ministers even for a small request, then it is a shame for the nation.
He said to the July warriors present, “Do not be upset. You will definitely get respect from this government. We will give you that respect. We will destroy everything we can for your welfare.’
Seeking everyone’s cooperation, he said, if this elected government makes a mistake, you will correct it.
Referring to the past authoritarian Awami League, he said, ‘We can’t be the Awami League anymore, we don’t want to be. Look at the Awami League, they have no remorse. They don’t feel any shame for so much injustice, murder, disappearance, money laundering, killing, torture, mirror house.’
He also said, ‘The fugitive fascist is saying again that he will come to the country in December. We are waiting. Come, come to the country, we will meet on the streets, God willing.’
Reflecting on his experience of the Liberation War, he said, ‘I fought the Liberation War at the age of 27. Now, at the age of 82, I will do another one, for Bangladesh, for the people of Bangladesh, I will make good governance and democracy permanent.’
He said, there are many countries in the world, but there are very few citizens who can stand up with both hands like Abu Sayeed in front of a gun. We are that nation. We are proud of them.
The Acting President said, ‘The July mass uprising has provided an opportunity to rebuild the state. Now our national goal should be to build a democratic, just and corruption-free Bangladesh where every citizen enjoys equal rights and dignity.’
He said, ‘Today we are standing at the beginning of a new journey. This journey is not easy. There will be differences of opinion, but we must show unity, restraint and wisdom on the issue of national interests, democratic values ​​and the independence and sovereignty of the country.
Warning the people, he said that we must be vigilant so that no division, no hatred or any narrow interests can hinder our national progress.
At this time, he called on everyone to keep the spirit of the great July Uprising in their hearts and move forward with the power of unity, patriotism, honesty and mutual respect.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, “Let us transform this new potential gained with the blood of martyrs into a firm commitment to build a non-discriminatory, democratic, just, humane and prosperous new Bangladesh.”
He said, ‘The great liberation war was fought in 1971 to establish democracy. The people’s war of 71 was a war to establish democracy. Similarly, the July war was also to establish democracy.’
He concluded his speech by calling on every citizen to be aware to protect the dignity of Bangladesh.
Earlier, he presented the crest of honor to the representatives of the July martyrs’ families and July fighters.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain were present as special guests at the event, which was chaired by Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan.
Representatives of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizens’ Committee were present at the event.
Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Md. Ashraful Islam delivered the welcome speech at the event.
Representatives of the July martyrs’ families and representatives of the July fighters expressed their expectations and convictions at the event.
Earlier, the event began at 12 noon with the performance of the national anthem and readings from the holy scriptures, and A minute of silence was observed in memory of the July martyrs and a documentary film on the July Uprising was screened.
