The first-ever international conference titled Hematology Tutorial was held in the country under the joint initiative of the European Hematology Association (EHA) and the Hematology Society of Bangladesh (HSB). The two-day scientific conference, held at a local hotel in the capital on October 3 and 4, was attended by 15 international and 213 local hematologists and trainees.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the welcome address of the President of the Hematology Society of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Amin Lutful Kabir, and the representative of the European Hematology Association.
The conference discussed the latest advances and modern treatment strategies in various hematological diseases, especially myeloid and lymphoid malignancies, B cell and T/NK cell lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, acute and chronic leukemia. Internationally renowned experts presented effective strategies for diagnosing these complex diseases, improving treatment, and improving the quality of life of patients.
The scientific sessions were conducted by experts from the European Hematology Association. Local experts presented several complex clinical cases. The event also featured an educational interactive quiz competition for the participants.
The closing ceremony was addressed by Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud, General Secretary of the Hematology Society of Bangladesh, and representatives of the European Hematology Association. A cultural program of local songs was held at the end.
The speakers said that the rate of blood cancer and other hematological diseases is increasing at an alarming rate in Bangladesh. By identifying the disease at the right time and applying modern treatment protocols, the survival rate of patients will increase. Such tutorials to utilize the experience of international standard hematologists are important for young doctors and specialists.
Speakers at the event also said that it is important to take initiatives to ensure that the same medical facilities and therapies available in developed countries are available in Bangladesh. Combining international cooperation and domestic expertise will open new horizons for hematological patients.
