Nur Islam Noyan, Dinajpur Bureau Chief: A training program on “Inclusive and Accessible Skill Development” for disabled youth was organized at the Government Technical School and College in Dinajpur district headquarters under the initiative of the non-governmental development organization Deepshikha Dinajpur, funded by Lillian Funds, in collaboration with the Center for Disability in Development (CDD) and under the project “The Meaningful Participation and Inclusion of Children and Youth with Disabilities in All Domains of Community Based Rehabilitation”.
The main objective of the training was to increase accessibility and inclusive awareness in the institution, which will increase the participation of disabled youth in technical and vocational education and employment opportunities. will create. The training program was attended by Principal Engineer A. K. M. Mostafizur Rahman of Government Technical School and College, Dinajpur Sadar Upazila, Instructor and Head of Department (Computer) Mosha: Nazma Akhtar Naju, teachers of all departments, and from Deepshikha, Project Coordinator Himanshu Dev Dutta Roy, CBR Facilitator Shafi Kamal, and members of Impact Group and Youth Association were present. In his welcome speech at the training, Project Coordinator Himanshu Dev Dutta Roy said, “Every disabled person can contribute according to his or her ability, if society, institutions and the state ensure accessibility to them and show an inclusive attitude. This training will further strengthen that vision. The teachers present in the open discussion said that the said technical school and college has a 2% quota for students with disabilities and they have some scholarships during training and placement and during the examination they provide extra time for students with disabilities if needed. This educational institution has various technical courses, but students from outside the institution have to get admitted in the ninth grade and complete the regular education program. However, there is a need for trained manpower and supporting and teaching materials suitable for all types of disabled students. ”The training program highlighted the concepts, policies and strategies for ensuring support for students with disabilities. At the end of the training, the participants expressed their commitment to implementing inclusive and accessible training programs. They expressed the hope that such training will play an important role in increasing the confidence, skills and participation of disabled youth in the workplace.
