Md. Moniruzzaman:
A huge crowd of visitors was observed at the traditional Chaitra fair at Nasirabad College ground in Mymensingh city. On Monday (April 13), the last day of Chaitra, the entire college ground was empty of people as there was no fair anywhere else in the city. Despite the scorching sun and heat, the fair premises became crowded with people. The fair witnessed a celebration of colorful food, clay toys, Nagardola and various traditional rural games. Due to the strict stance of local political leaders and activists at the fair, no complaints of extortion were received. Mymensingh City Corporation Administrator Rukunuzzaman Sarkar gave various directions for the discipline and management of the Rokon fair. Along with local leaders and activists, Mymensingh South District Jubo Dal’s Literary and Publication Affairs Secretary Muntasir Moni and student leader Raihan Rahman Munna and many others were active in the field to ensure the safety of businessmen and visitors. 8-year-old child Radid, who came to the fair, expressed his excitement and said that he feels very good to be at the fair. On the other hand, Labani Akhter, who came to the fair with her children, said that she has been coming to this fair since childhood and coming here every year after marriage has become a kind of tradition for her; she feels very bad if she cannot come to the fair. A festive atmosphere prevailed in the Nasirabad College ground throughout the day with this Chaitra Sankranti arrangement centered around this event.
