Controversy over photo of toy pistol in Meghna, Pangsha; Youth protests at press conference

A young man held a press conference in Meghna area of ​​Bahadurpur union of Pangsha upazila of Rajbari over a photo of him holding a toy pistol that went viral on social media. The press conference was held at Meghna Bazar around 11:30 am on Monday (June 8).
At the press conference, Ratan Mandal said that about 5-6 months ago, a toy pistol was bought for his nephew from a fair during a family function at their house. Later, he posted a photo of himself holding the toy pistol on his Facebook ID and also made a TikTok video with it.
He alleged that later someone collected the photo from his Facebook ID and spread it through various media and started promoting the toy pistol as a real weapon. He claimed that his personal and family honor was being tarnished.
Ratan Mondal said, “My father is a farmer. When I go to the market, different people make different comments about this. This is damaging the honor of our family. I strongly condemn and protest this incident. I also demand the administration to take legal action against those who are using my picture to spread misleading propaganda.”
Ratan’s father Mizanur Rahman Mondal said, “I am an ordinary farmer. I have to struggle to run my family. However, propaganda is being spread about a picture of my son holding a toy pistol. I condemn this incident and demand action against those involved.”
He also said, “Are people so stupid that someone would take a picture of him holding a real pistol and then spread it on their Facebook?”
Saiful Islam, who was present at the press conference, said, “I am a small businessman, Ratan is my cousin. He sometimes stays with me. A malicious group is promoting a toy pistol as a real pistol to defame me. These allegations are completely false, fabricated and baseless. I strongly condemn this incident and demand legal action against those involved.”
In this regard, Pangsha Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mainul Islam said, I have not received any complaint in this regard, if I receive a complaint, I will take legal action.
Ratan’s mother, Ms. Asia Khatun, local residents Swapan, Jahangir, Anwar, Zakir and other prominent figures of the area were also present at the press conference.
