Comilla in 5 American expatriates people sentenced to death for killing

Five people have been sentenced to death for killing an American expatriate named Akbar Hossain Babul (52). Judge Nasreen Jahan of Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Court of Comilla announced the verdict on Thursday (April 6).

The deceased expatriate Akbar Hossain Babul is the son of Ali Ahmed Patwari of Ulupara village of Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali district.

The five people who were sentenced are Lipi Akter Kajal, wife of the deceased’s younger brother Belal, Kamal Hossain of the same village, Tajul Islam Prakash Sajib, Rahmat Ullah Prakash Roni and Md. ruble

According to court sources, on the morning of August 14, 2017, the police recovered the melted body of a man wrapped in a chaat bag in a reservoir next to Mudaffarganj regional road in Laksam district. In this incident, Deputy Inspector (SI) of Laksam Police Station Sheikh Milton Rahman filed a case accusing unknown persons as the plaintiff. Later, with the help of information technology, the police arrested Kamal Hossain of the same village, Lipi Akhter Kajol, wife of the younger brother of the deceased Babul, for his involvement in the murder on September 14 of the same year. Tajul Islam arrested Prakash Sajib the next day and Rahmat Ullah Prakash Roni on September 24.

The arrested gave a confessional statement under section 164 in the court describing the murder. On July 4, 2018, the then OC of Laksam Police Station, Abdullah Al Mahfuz, submitted the charge sheet to the court against the five accused.

Fatema Yachmin, the wife of the deceased, said that my husband was killed due to a property dispute. He said, I and my three children could not see my husband’s mutilated and almost melted body during his last farewell. We demand immediate arrest of the fugitive accused and implementation of the death sentence of five persons.

Advocate Zahid Hossain, assistant public prosecutor (APP) of the court said that the police charge sheet and the testimony of 16 witnesses out of 27 witnesses were accepted. The judge ordered the death penalty for five of the accused as the charges brought against them were proved in the hearing of arguments of both sides on Thursday.

He said three accused were present during the verdict. Apart from this, the main accused in the case, Lipi Akhtar Kajal and Tajul Islam Prakash Sajib are absconding. Advocate Zahid Hossain said that justice has been established through this verdict.
