Coast Guard special operation in Teknaf recovers domestic firearms, ammunition and gun powder

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has recovered a domestic firearm, fresh ammunition, MT cartridges (blank cartridges) and gun powder in a special operation in the Maheshkhalia Para area of ​​Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar. However, it was not possible to arrest anyone as the terrorists fled after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard during the operation.
This information was given in a press release signed by Bangladesh Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan on Tuesday (July 7) afternoon.
The press release said that the Coast Guard has been conducting regular intelligence surveillance and special operations as part of the ongoing operation against armed terrorists, smugglers and criminal gangs to maintain law and order in the coastal areas. In continuation of this, on the basis of secret information, a special operation was conducted in the Maheshkhalia Para area of ​​Teknaf police station at around 7 am on Tuesday.
During the operation, a country-made firearm, three rounds of fresh ammunition, 37 rounds of MT cartridges (blank cartridges) and about 25 grams of gun powder were recovered from a suspicious residence during a search. These recovered evidences have been seized.
The Coast Guard said that the terrorists staying in the house quickly fled after sensing the presence of the operation team. As a result, it was not possible to arrest anyone despite conducting the operation. However, necessary intelligence activities are continuing to identify the fugitives and bring them under the law.
The relevant sources said that the purpose for which the recovered firearms, ammunition and gun powder were stored there, who was involved in it and whether there was any organized armed group behind it is being investigated.
The Coast Guard said that further legal action regarding the recovered evidence is under process. In addition, necessary steps are being taken in coordination with other law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest the people involved in the incident. Bangladesh Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said that Bangladesh Coast Guard will conduct such intelligence-based special operations more vigorously in the future to maintain the law and order situation in the country, control arms and smuggling in the coastal areas, and ensure public safety.
