One person was killed and two others injured in a clash over a dispute over watermelon cultivation land in Bauphal, Patuakhali.
The incident took place in an area of ​​Chandradwip Union of the upazila on Tuesday (March 31) afternoon. The deceased, Ujjwal Karmakar, is the son of the deceased Ajit Karmakar of Sadar Road, Kalaiya Union.
According to sources, a farmer named Firoz Gazi was cultivating watermelons by leasing land from two people named Sabuj and Faisal. Mizan Gong claimed the same land as his own. On Tuesday afternoon, while Firoz was harvesting watermelons, Mizan Gazi, along with his friends, including the deceased Ujjal, stopped him. At one point, the brawl turned into a clash and Ujjal died from serious injuries.
The victim’s family alleged that Ujjwal’s death was due to police negligence. When the police went to rescue the injured, they sent the other party to the hospital in a speedboat.
Bauphal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Islam said that the post-mortem examination of the body has been completed and a drive is being launched to arrest those involved in the incident.
