Bikes above 165 cc are not allowed in Bangladesh. That’s why Bengalis had nothing to do but regret seeing Royal Enfield or TVS 350 cc bikes. But this time that hope is going to be fulfilled.

No other country in the world has such a detention limit. But in Bangladesh till now bikes above 165 cc were not allowed to avoid accidents. Before 2017 it was limited to 155 cc. However, speed has nothing to do with motorcycle CC. 300 or 500 cc motorcycle can reach the maximum speed, 165 cc motorcycle can also reach the same speed.

Last Thursday (September 7) a meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs approved the production and distribution of such motorcycles. This ended years of negotiations between the motorcycle manufacturer and the government. The Ministry of Home Affairs has allowed motorcycles up to 350 cc in the country. However, such motorcycles cannot be imported in complete condition. It can only be imported from abroad in disassembled condition (CKD) and marketed in domestic factories.

According to the Motorcycle Industry Development Policy 2018, manufacturers can export motorcycles with engines up to 500 cc. But riding this bike was not allowed in the country. Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission recommends raising this limit of CC to 350.

The company will officially launch its 350 cc Royal Enfield in the domestic market in July next year. After that it will start exporting this motorcycle to the international market. In the meantime, Ifad Autos is making a factory in Bangabandhu Shilpanagar located in Mirsrai, Chittagong to bring the traditional British motorcycle brand Royal Enfield to the Bangladesh market.
