A passenger bus lost control and fell into a ditch on the side of the road in the Dapadpiya Chowmatha area of Nalchiti upazila of Jhalakathi amid continuous rain. At least 20 passengers were injured in this.
The accident occurred on the Barisal-Patuakhali highway at around 2:30 am on Wednesday. The Barguna-bound bus named ‘Abdullah’, which left Dhaka, reached the Dapadpiya Chowmatha intersection when the driver lost control. At that time, the bus fell into a ditch on the side of the road.
Locals said that after hearing the loud noise of the accident late at night, they quickly rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers trapped inside the bus. They immediately took the initiative to rescue the injured and provide medical treatment.
According to local sources, although no one was killed in the accident, about 20 passengers on the bus were injured. Some of them were sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment as their condition was critical.
Meanwhile, locals have alleged that no police personnel were seen at the scene till 8:30 am.
