Mashahed Ahmed, Moulvibazar: On the occasion of the 29th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Harijan Oikya Parishad-2026, a memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister, making 7-point demands including improving the quality of life of the Harijan community, ensuring safe housing, and reservation of quota in government jobs. After an hour-long handover in front of the Moulvibazar Press Club, the leaders of the organization submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner on August 4 at noon. Present at the event were Udochi Moulvibazar District President Jahar Lal Dutta, BVERS, Sylhet Division Parimal Singh Baraik, Bangladesh Harijan Oikya Parishad Moulvibazar District President Kanti Lal Basfour, Bangladesh Harijan Oikya Parishad General Secretary Lachman Basfour, Bangladesh Harijan Oikya Parishad Moulvibazar District General Secretary Dhruv Basfour Shaon, Organizing Secretary Ratan Basfour, etc. The memorandum states that although the contribution of the Harijan community in maintaining cleanliness and public health services in the country is very important, they are still subject to various discriminations in terms of safe and permanent housing, education, healthcare, employment and social status. Therefore, effective steps are demanded to improve their standard of living. The demands raised in the memorandum include ensuring safe, healthy and permanent housing for the Harijan community, reserving 80 percent quota in the short term for the appointment of cleaners, permanent appointment of temporary and daily wage workers who have been working for a long time, ensuring education, health, employment and social security, ensuring fair wages and a safe working environment, establishing equal rights by eliminating social discrimination, and reserving 1 percent quota in government jobs for the educated Harijan community. The memorandum calls on the government to take necessary initiatives to quickly implement the long-standing just demands of the Harijan community.
