The recent report published on an online crime portal “The Crime Dex” against Mr. Jewel, a resident of Uttara, is completely false, intentional, and conspiratorial.
The published report portrays him as a “drug kingpin” and a “supplier of women and foreign liquor”, which is written to intentionally damage his social status, family status, and professional life. We would like to strongly state that:
Mr. Jewel is in no way involved in illegal business or drugs.
He does not own or have any involvement with the bars and hotels mentioned in the report.
The fanciful claim that his good relations with the law enforcement agencies mean that he “managed” them is against the minimum sense of responsibility of the media.
The criminals with whom his name is linked in the related report are completely different individuals—a deliberate attempt to prove Mr. Jewel as part of a criminal gang.
We firmly believe that this report is a deliberate attempt to politically humiliate Mr. Jewel and his family by destroying their social status and damaging their trust-based relationship with the law enforcement agencies.
We demand:
Legal action will be taken against the said media outlet if the report is not officially withdrawn and an apology is not issued within 72 hours.
The media is called upon to verify the facts and stop reporting such opinion-based, baseless and character-defaming news.
Stand for the truth, let journalism be responsible.
Mr. Jowel and family,
Uttara, Dhaka.
