After a positive DNA test report and a long legal battle of about three years, the rapist Tauhidur Rahman Saikat was finally forced to marry the victim. According to the order of the court, the marriage was completed at the Khulna District Lawyers Association auditorium on Thursday. The marriage dowry is fixed at five lakh rupees with the consent of both the parties. This was confirmed by the plaintiff’s lawyer Bidhan Das. Meanwhile, as a result of the rape, Bhumishta’s child received paternity. Her mother is somewhat relieved about the future of her newborn daughter. Lawyers referred to this matter as a success of justice. Before this, on April 4, Khulna Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal 2 judge Md. Rafiqul Islam gave two options to the accused Saikat during the hearing: either marriage or prison. PP advocate Jasmin Ara Jolly represented the state in the court. Bidhan Das, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said that the DNA report proved the truth of the incident. 100% match was found in the DNA report of the accused with the child. Accused has admitted his daughter. This has enabled the correct identification of the child’s father. On April 4, the court reviewed the DNA report and ordered the accused Saikat to marry the victim. At the same time, he ordered the marriage to be completed by April 13. According to Islamic law, the marriage was completed by paying a dowry of five lakh rupees. Accused Tauhidur Rahman Saikat is the son of Md Shafiul Islam of Damodar village (Ward No. 9 Pongkojini Basu Road) of Fultala upazila in Khulna. He is a Mahindra driver. According to the details of the case, the accused Saikat raped the woman passenger in his Mahindra by showing fear. On August 11, 2021, the woman herself filed a case at Phultala police station. The police arrested him in this case and sent him to jail. After this incident, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. But because the accused beach rapist did not admit the marriage and the identity of the father of the daughter, on July 26 of last year, the judge (district and session judge) Md. Rafiqul Islam of Khulna Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal No. 2 ordered the collection of samples for DNA testing. According to that, in the presence of the lawyers of the plaintiff and the defendant, samples were ordered to be collected on August 16 last year. As per the instructions of the court, the samples were collected and sent to Dhaka. The DNA report proves that the father of the newborn is Saikat. Incidentally, in 2021, during the lockdown due to Corona, the woman came to Khulna Medical College Hospital from Phultala for treatment in a Mahindra. On the way back home in the same Mahindra after the treatment, the driver Touhidur Rahman raped Padma on the road after leaving the car at a secluded place. At that time, he recorded the video of the scene on his mobile phone, which was mentioned in the case that he raped her several times after fearing publicity. Due to which she became pregnant. Recently a daughter was born to her.
