Abdus Sattar, MP Advocate of Brahmanbaria-2 Constituency passed away

Former State Minister and Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) Constituency Advocate Abdus Sattar Bhuya (84) passed away at Ever Care Hospital in Dhaka at 3 am on Saturday (Inna-Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He was admitted to the hospital last week. He was a six-time Member of Parliament.

Abdus Sattar Bhuya’s son Mainul Hasan Tushar confirmed the matter. He said that his father was suffering from kidney problems for a long time. He was admitted to Ever Care Hospital a week ago when his physical condition worsened. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital at 3:02 am on Saturday.

Abdul Sattar Bhuya is the son of Abdul Hamid Bhuya and Rahima Khatun of Parmanandpur village of Aruail Union in Sarail Upazila of Brahmanbaria. He was born on 16 January 1939. He was engaged in the profession of lawyer in Brahmanbaria court. He served as the president of Brahmanbaria District BNP for a long time.

Lawyer Abdus Sattar Bhuya was elected Member of Parliament as an independent candidate in the then Comilla-1 constituency in 1979. Later, in 1991 and 1996, he was elected Member of Parliament in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency on the nomination of BNP in the 15th February and June elections. In the 2001 election, Abdus Sattar also served as Minister of State for Law, Fisheries and Lands as a technocrat minister from the then 4-party coalition government. However, he remained inactive from political activities after the 2008 elections. In the 11th National Parliament election held in 2018, he again won as a nominated Member of Parliament of BNP with the image of a grain of rice. He was expelled from BNP on 2 January 2023. Later by-elections were held and he won as an independent candidate. Top leaders of Awami League work for him.
