With the aim of making Gazipur a modern, clean and livable city, Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) has announced a proposed budget of 5,102 crore 35 lakh 8 thousand taka. It is being seen as one of the largest budgets of the City Corporation for urban development, infrastructure expansion and improvement of citizen services.
On Sunday (July 26) at noon, Gazipur City Corporation Administrator Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar announced the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in front of journalists at the City Corporation hall.
The total income in the announced budget is 5,102 crore 35 lakh 8 thousand taka. Against this, the total expenditure has been proposed to be 2,480 crore 84 lakh taka. The probable closing balance at the end of the budget is 2,621 crore 51 lakh taka. The budget has given utmost importance to development projects. A target of 1,400 crore taka from government development grants and 2,501 crore 91 lakh 50 thousand taka from foreign aid-supported and GOP-based projects has been set.
The revenue (general fund) sector has been estimated at 4,44 crore 6 lakh 50 thousand taka and the water supply sector has been estimated at 90 crore 80 lakh 75 thousand taka.
In terms of expenditure, 841 crore 96 lakh 50 thousand taka has been planned for the revenue (general fund) sector, 90 crore 80 lakh 75 thousand taka for the water supply sector, 131 crore 95 lakh taka for the government grant-based development sector, 262 crore 25 lakh taka for its own revenue projects and 1,608 crore 73 lakh 20 thousand taka for foreign aid-supported and GOP-based projects.
In the budget speech, Administrator Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar said that with the cooperation of the city residents and the coordinated efforts of everyone, the City Corporation is working to make Gazipur a clean, modern and livable city.
He said that this budget will play an important role in ensuring citizen services, infrastructural development, development of the water supply system and implementation of ongoing development projects.
He also mentioned that the cooperation of the city residents, public representatives, officials and employees and all concerned is required in implementing the budget.
It is worth noting that in the revised budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, the total income of the Gazipur City Corporation was estimated at 3,636 crore 6 lakh 97 thousand taka and the total expenditure was 1,205 crore 80 lakh 4 thousand taka.
