Md. Anisur Rahman Shelly:

A march and a road meeting have been organized by the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) in Kalihati, Tangail, with the slogan “July awakening to build the country”.
The road meeting was held in front of Kalihati Shajahan Siraj College on Wednesday (July 8) at around 4:30 pm under the chairmanship of Kalihati Upazila Branch President Mehedi Hasan Bin Siddique.
Speaking as the chief guest at the road meeting, NCP’s northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam said, “We have shed blood for change. The students and the public did not shed blood to remove one party from power and loot another party.” He claimed that in the past, a one-party regime was established in the country and people had to be subjected to disappearances and harassment if they expressed their dissent.
He said, Sheikh Hasina had a disease, everyone is bad. Sheikh Hasina is good. I will not let this disease happen during the BNP regime. Everyone is bad. Tarique Rahman is good. I will not let this disease happen. “If anyone thinks of establishing a one-party rule again, then we must remember the consequences of the Awami League.”
Regarding the July Charter, Sarjis Alam alleged that the current government has repealed important ordinances related to the Anti-Disappearance Ordinance, the Human Rights Ordinance and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Although the government is talking about amending and bringing them back, he expressed concern that this may be an attempt to centralize power. He demanded the implementation of the referendum verdict.
On the Adani issue, he said that India’s Adani company has been given the opportunity to take huge money from Bangladesh in the name of capacity charges. He called for moving away from such projects and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to every household.
Regarding the border situation, he said that the speech of the Chief Minister of India’s West Bengal has brought up plans to make more “push-ins” in Bangladesh, which is worrying for the country’s sovereignty. He demanded strengthening border security, making the border areas safer and strengthening the BGB.
Addressing the BNP, Sarjis Alam said, “BNP is the ruling party today. They are our fellow fighters in the uprising. I will praise their good work, but if they make any mistake, they will not be given any concessions.”
Kurigram MP Dr. Atiq Mujahid spoke about the July Charter. He said that 32 political parties had formulated the July Charter after discussing for six to seven months and later about 70 percent of the country voted in favor of it in the referendum. He alleged that the current BNP-led government has rejected the reform proposal and the July Charter after coming to power.
Regarding employment, he said that before coming to power, BNP had promised to create one crore jobs in one and a half years. But even though four months have passed, there is no visible progress. He also claimed that there is no clear outline for job creation in the government’s budget.
In addition, NCP central joint convener Sarwar Tushar, former parliamentarian candidate of Ghatail Upazila Haider, and Ghatail Upazila Chief Coordinator Qari Anis Ahmed spoke at the road meeting. NCP leaders, activists, supporters and a large number of common people were present at the meeting.
